Britt Olson2007 Technician of the Year: Britt Olson

With over 20 years of service to Southeastern Freight Lines of Albany, Ga., Olson is a two-time Quality Achiever within the company’s Quality Improvement Process program. Olson has logged over 85 hours of training since 2002, earning certification in various areas such as Volvo A/C troubleshooting, Haldex brake/ABS, Meritor PSI tire inflations system and ConMet wheel ends to name a few. Olson is also an ASE certified technician.

Olson’s nomination form also acknowledges his innovative contributions to the industry, such as his fabrication of a tool used to adjust the clutch on the Volvo VN’s with hydraulic clutch control systems.

Tyson Sontag2006 Technician of the Year: Tyson Sontag

Serving the heavy duty repair industry for 13 years, Sontag is currently a technician for McKee Foods Transportation LLC in Gentry, Ark. Sontag is a certified Master Heavy Duty Technician (ASE), and a member of the Arkansas Trucking Association’s Maintenance and Technology Council. Sontag also serves on the American Trucking Associations Professional Technicians Development Committee where he won the National Technician’s Championship. Sontag also won the TMC SuperTech 2006 National competition.

Sontag’s nomination form acknowledges his efforts in improving the repair techniques at McKee Foods Transportation such as his development of a tool to enable technicians to remove and replace the EGR heatshield and valves in a significantly shorter time.

Darrell Gravley

2005 Technician of the Year: Darrell Gravley

A 15-year employee of Southeastern Freight Lines, Inc. in Greensboro, N.C., Gravley is an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Truck Technician, and a member of the Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC). In addition, Gravley has participated in several certification and training programs, including Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Inspector Certification (2000), OSHA Tire and Rim Training (2000), Foundation Brake Training (2003), HAZ-MAT Security Training (2003) and Smith System Safe Driver Training (2005), among others.

Gravley’s nomination form also cites his “creative and perceptive attitude” toward shop operation and safety for initiating the installation of safety arms at the exit of the check lane to protect the technicians from safety lane accidents.
